2. Lemuel Cullen

Further notes on the denizens of the Salisbury. The man at the jukebox is Lemuel Cullen, or "Lemmy" to his friends. Of which there are many. And various. Lemmy is pumping two-pound coins into the slot and queueing Rammestein, Five Finger Death Punch and Slayer in the hope that it will discourage that group of mods from putting on their favorite tunes and to ultimately leave the establishment. He can be passive-aggressive like that. He can also be active-aggressive after a few glasses of Jura.
Nearing 40 years, 5' 10" in his rock boots Lemmy has long curly black hair and a goatee. As with many men of his age his hair is receding at the front, a disastrous state of affairs camouflaged by a black bandana featuring a repeated skulls motif.
Having filled the jukebox Lemmy moves on to chat with the fat bloke on the quiz machine. He laughs loudly as he proffers incorrect answers and gives an affectionate punch to said quizzer which almost dislocates his shoulder. A quick trip to the bar and a chat with the Goth barmaid he returns with a large malt for the fat bloke and all is well with Lemmy.
As a day job Lemmy has done many, with varying degrees of success but always with enthusiasm. Currently he is a temporary, locum, relief IT contractor. it pays well, recently he opened a new bank account as he had filled the first one up.
Lemmy has never smoked nor tried illicit substances as for all his high talk he is a genuine and clean living chap, he has a mortgage on a small flat in Gorton Garden Suburb, pays his bills on time and secretly worries about his sexual prowess. His prodigious consumption of Scotch does not help him on the last one.
Lemmy is currently dating another Salisbury regular, a young lady known as Persephone. They have been courting for almost three months and they meet on her nights off from the parlour.
As Lemmy moves towards the pool table we take our leave until next time.

Once more we find ourselves in the Salisbury, the pub that knows nothing of regular hours and rejects licensing regulations. 1. Kwacker Gasbags

A few notes about people in the Salisbury possibly number one of an indefinite list. Meet Kwacker Gasbags. Kwacker was so named not because he farts a lot, indeed he farts no more and no less than the next person. Unless the next person is Farty O'Gutbucket who is known throughout the land for his noxious emissions. No, Kwacker was so named because Mr and Mrs Gasbags liked ducks. And Japanese motorcycles. And disliked English spelling conventions. Kwacker sits alone nursing his very small beer. He looks on longingly at the young people having fun. Kwacker doesn't have much fun these days. Kwacker has not had much fun in his life. His day job takes him around the mean streets of Manchester where he spends eight hours every day estimating how full the litter bins are in order that the Street Cleansing Directorate may efficiently plan their emptying rota. In the bar at the end of the world

‘ Uuuh !  My head hurts’   ‘Welcome back to the land of the living Alfie’ said the Nick Cave lookalike barman with a smile. ‘Just in time for breakfast’.   ‘Wha- … what’s going on here?  Why am I here?’ groaned Alfie.   ‘The eternal question my foppish friend, why indeed are we all here?  Is there an ultimate meaning to  our  existence?’   ‘Knock it off mate, not that.’ Alfie sits up and perches on the edge of the pool table, feet dangling, he winces as he rubs the back of his neck. ‘I’m sure your beer is getting stronger.’   Alfie screws his bleary eyes and peers through the dusty window.   ‘ Bejeepers !’  He opens his eyes wide.  His mouth forms an ‘O’.  ‘What’s happened out there?’   ‘You’ve been out for three days Alfie.  Sit in that comfortable chair near the bar, eat this breakfast and we can talk’ said Nick Cave.  ‘You have a bit of catching up to do.’   Alfie climbs down off the pool table and shuffles across the bar room.  The pub looks similar to normal for the most part; dar
